The GSA Schedules program offers businesses a powerful platform for expanding their presence in the federal marketplace. Many contractors use a GSA Schedule as a foundation for growth, building from one or two initial government contracts into a much broader and more consistent stream of federal sales.
As the chart below illustrates, the program is widely used by federal agencies. In fiscal year 2025, which ended September 30, 2025, GSA Schedule sales totaled approximately $41 billion, with VA contracts accounting for an additional $15 billion in sales.
Although businesses may pursue many different types of government contracting opportunities, a GSA Schedule contract, or a VA contract for firms offering medical products and services, remains an important asset in a company’s federal marketing strategy. This is particularly true for small businesses that are just beginning to establish a foothold in the government market.

GSA MAS sales declined modestly in fiscal year 2025 as the new administration began reshaping federal procurement policy. Despite this temporary slowdown, the outlook for GSA remains strong. In April 2025, an executive order announced that GSA would assume a significantly expanded role in civilian procurement. As a result, GSA’s contract portfolio is projected to grow from approximately $100 billion to roughly $400 billion over the next year, creating substantial opportunities for contractors positioned to serve the federal market.
